Candlelight Eucharistic Procession and Holy Rosary from St. Paul Catholic Church to Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church.
Our ministry organized a Marian procession, cupcakes, games, and prizes, topped off with a living candlelight rosary captured by drone photography.
AKRON, OHIO - July 1, 2023, we organized a public gathering to kneel in adoration of Jesus Christ at the intersection of E. Market and Main Sts. in Akron, Ohio. The pastor of St. Bernard and St. Mary parishes exposed the Blessed Sacrament at St. Bernard's and quietly processed to the meeting place. We played a recording of "Jesus Christ is in Every Book of the Bible" as the call to worship and after that 6-1/2 minutes processed 1-1/2 miles to St. Mary Parish on South Main St. while singing Eucharistic hymns and praying the rosary.
Our Mother's Hands ministry organized a Marian Procession with May Crownings through Saint Sebastian Parish and Our Lady of the Elms school, led by their Spiritual Director, Fr. Jozef Bozek. "While our ministry has been honored to organize half a dozen Eucharistic Processions throughout the County, this is the first Marian Procession we have put together," said the founder of the ministry, Rosemary Reed. "One of our ministry's main focuses is to introduce or re-introduce the community to lost or forgotten devotions." She continued, "We had no idea of specifics but knew we wanted to honor the Blessed Virgin in this way. So my husband, James, built a wooden carrier for the statue (a bier) and we covered it with cloth and flowers."The faithful from a number of nearby parishes joined in praying the rosary and singing Marian hymns along a nearly mile-long route. They chose a First Communicant to crown the statues and two young men to carry the crowns. Our Mother's Hands is now planning a Eucharistic Procession on July 1st in Downtown Akron, and another Marian Procession on September 8th.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHT
Oct. 28, 2022 - Akron, Ohio
While many Akron residents attended Friday Night Lights at area high school football games, over 100 Catholics participated in a candlelit Eucharistic Procession down Brown St. in Akron, paying homage to the Light of the World. Beginning at St. Paul Catholic Church and ending at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, the devout gathered and solemnly prayed as Fathers Matthew Pfeiffer and Vsevolod (Sal) Shevchuk accompanied the Blessed Sacrament on the journey while praying the Holy Rosary.
Billed as the opportunity to “bring Jesus and Mary to the streets of Akron” the procession encountered members of the community who paused to bow their heads in prayer as they passed by.
“Our group has organized half a dozen Eucharistic processions over the past 2 years throughout the City,” commented Rosemary Reed of Our Mother’s Hands ministry. “We are so blessed to have a large group of good and holy priests in this area who remind us that the Eucharist is the Source and Summit of our Faith.”
The procession was planned to coordinate with the Friday evening Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) at St. Paul’s, which presented an opportunity for those attendees who do not normally attend the TLM to experience the richness and beauty of it. Concluding at a Ukrainian Catholic Church was another opportunity for the faithful to experience something out of the ordinary since, while in full communion with the Church, most have only been inside Roman Catholic churches. (And even more do not realize the Catholic Church actually consists of over twenty churches.)
Fr. Sal ended the evening by stressing not just the beauty but the symbolism of the evening as he pointed out that he and Fr. Pfeiffer had removed Jesus, as the Holy Eucharist, from the tabernacle of a Roman Catholic Latin Rite church and had together placed Him into the tabernacle of a Ukrainian Catholic Church. Especially, at this time of war and strife in the Ukraine, it was a perfect expression of the united prayer of all Catholics.
Our 3rd Annual Birthday Party for the Blessed Virgin Mary on September 9th, 2022 at St. Sebastian Parish in Akron, Ohio. We began with a Eucharistic procession around the campus, then cake and ice cream, and finally a candlelight living rosary with hymns.
